About this collection

Vital records capture our history and are important for recording life events and discovering our ancestors.  The first settlers of this area were accustomed to the registration of christenings, marriages and burials, predominately through church records.  Even as early as 1632, the Grand Assembly of Virginia realized their importance and mandated that ministers or wardens of churches provide the courts with a register of these events every year.  This collection currently holds vital records from early Princess Anne County through the hard work and generosity of Melinda Jones Lukei.
