The United States Military has played an important role in the growth and vitality of Hampton Roads. Throughout the history of Hampton Roads, and Virginia Beach in particular, the presence of the military has contributed to our safety, our history, and our economy. Today, Virginia Beach is home to Oceana Naval Air Station and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and has in the past been home to Coast Guard Stations, numerous airfields, prison camps, and other military installations. This collection will highlight the military’s role in the history of Virginia Beach.
